What is a Sattvic Diet?
The Sattvic diet refers to pure vegetarian food, which includes fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, pulses, jaggery, sugar, milk, and other dairy products. Also, sattvic diet preparation avoids the use of onions and garlic. As per experts, sattvic foods are part of a yogic diet that emphasizes purity, clarity of mind, and spiritual well-being. These foods are believed to promote physical health and mental balance. It is also believed that vegetarian food helps boost the immunity and overall health of the human body.
Take a look at the vegetarian foods one can eat:
Fruits and Vegetables: Fresh fruits and vegetables are considered sattvic. They are high in vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Include a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables in your diet, such as apples, bananas, berries, leafy greens, carrots, and cucumbers.
Whole Grains: Whole grains are a good source of complex carbohydrates and fiber. Sattvic grains include brown rice, quinoa, millet, and oats. These grains provide sustained energy and are easy to digest.
Legumes and Pulses: Legumes and pulses are rich in protein and are a staple in a sattvic diet. Examples include lentils, chickpeas, mung beans, and black-eyed peas. These provide essential nutrients without being overly heavy.
Nuts and Seeds: Nuts and seeds are nutrient-dense and provide healthy fats, proteins, and various vitamins and minerals. Almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, and chia seeds are considered sattvic. They can be consumed as snacks or added to meals.
Dairy Products: Fresh, pure dairy products are considered sattvic. This includes milk, ghee (clarified butter), yogurt, and paneer (Indian cottage cheese). These dairy products are believed to be nourishing for the body and mind.
