The

French

Academy is a voluntary learning activity that is spearheaded by Priya Bala Mohan, a PhD holder in French language and member of the Pratt & Whitney Bengaluru team. What began as a pilot batch of 10 volunteers in March 2023 has quickly become one of the most favoured employee interest activities of the over 180 strong

team

at the Bengaluru centre.

The 90-hour course is open to all team members – and Priya leads classes twice a week, with employees spending one hour from their personal time and one hour from working hours weekly. The first batch of candidates appeared for the DELF A1 exam at Alliance Française de Bengaluru in July, and all of them received the A1 DELF certification. The exam cost was covered by the organisation. DELF is an official diploma awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify the French language competency of candidates outside of France. “As part of our team engagement at Pratt & Whitney, we try to go beyond the usual employee interest activities and focus on volunteerism in and around our communities – which includes working with and mentoring students in STEM, and also activities which allow our colleagues to learn and have fun,” says Sandeep Sharma, director of the India Capability Centre at Pratt & Whitney India.
