 ‘Hotmixing in 10 days’

Panaji: In the petition concerning road safety and dust pollution due to the construction of the elevated corridor at Porvorim, a representative of the contractor told the high court on Wednesday that hotmixing of the stretch will be completed within the next 10 days.
Although it was decided that the PWD should go ahead with further work on the elevated corridor only after roads are hotmixed, govt raised a grievance that the contractor commenced work without providing proper hotmixed roads. The contractor assured the HC that further work will not proceed unless proper hotmixed roads are in place.
Govt also raised a grievance that the contractor is continuing to dig without prior permission and without intimating traffic police before going ahead with any new diversion/barricading. The contractor assured the HC that henceforth these instructions will be scrupulously followed and prior intimation as required will be given to the authorities.
The advocate general assured the high court that work on the elevated corridor beyond O’Coquiero Junction will be undertaken after the New Year events to prevent further traffic congestion.

The HC was told that the PWD has provided a list of signboards to the contractor. In turn, the contractor assured the HC that the signboards will be erected expeditiously as directed by the collector. The contractor also said that the illumination work at the construction site of the elevated corridor for better visibility is under way and roads will be properly illuminated as directed by the PWD.
On 108 ambulances and motorcycle ambulances to be stationed along NH 66 at Porvorim at strategic locations, the HC was told that the plan is under active consideration and will be processed within 10 days.

As regards the setting up of a temporary trauma centre at Porvorim, the upgrading of primary health centre at Porvorim is under process but for the present, the ambulance arrangement is already in place, the HC was told.
Boards with details of the locations of ambulances and contact numbers will be displayed at prominent places along NH 66 at Porvorim and will be installed by the PWD within the next ten days, govt told the HC.
Phone numbers of Goa police helpline, the PI of the traffic cell of Porvorim, and the PI of the Porvorim police station must be displayed in ten days at prominent places for the information of the public, the high court said.
