NEW DELHI: West Indies batsman
Nicholas Pooran
recently surpassed the iconic
Chris Gayle
to become the
top run-scorer
for his country in

during the T20 World Cup match against New Zealand in Tarouba on Wednesday.
Despite a modest performance, scoring 17 runs off 12 balls, Pooran's effort was sufficient to eclipse Gayle's record, marking a significant milestone in his career.

The West Indies team was asked to bat first by New Zealand, who won the toss. The West Indies faced a challenging start, finding themselves at 30/5 at one point.
However, a resilient half-century from
Sherfane Rutherford
, who scored 68 not out from 39 balls, propelled the team to a total of 149/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Rutherford's innings was highlighted by two fours and six sixes.
Nicholas Pooran's achievement of becoming the highest run-scorer for the West Indies in T20Is is a testament to his explosive batting style and consistent performance. Surpassing a figure like Chris Gayle places Pooran among the elite batsmen in T20 cricket.
