NEW YORK (PIX11) – Voting has begun for New York’s 3rd Congressional District special election.
The special election is to fill the seat that George Santos held following his expulsion from the House of Representatives. Santos was ousted from Congress after the House Ethics Committee found evidence that the congressman committed a slew of federal law violations.
Voters in the 3rd Congressional District will have the chance Tuesday to cast their ballot for either Democrat Tom Suozzi or Republican Mazi Pilip.
Ahead of the special election, Pilip and Suozzi both sat down for an exclusive televised political forum, “PIX on Politics: Pilip vs. Suozzi – Replacing Santos,” to share their stances on immigration, the economy, congestion pricing, and more issues important to voters in their district.
Pilip is a Nassau County legislator who represents Great Neck, Manhasset and Herricks. She was born in Ethiopia, lived in Israel, and served in the Israel Defense Forces.
Suozzi previously represented New York’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House for six years from 2017-2023, but he gave up his seat to run for New York governor, losing to Gov. Kathy Hochul in the Democratic primary.
Voters can find their polling site here. The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
