FLUSHING, Queens (PIX11) — Police are searching for the suspects wanted in connection to the brutal stabbing of an elderly woman during an attempted robbery inside her Queens apartment.
The violent attack in the apartment building near Parsons Boulevard and Roosevelt Avenue sent shockwaves through what neighbors feel is normally a quiet Flushing community.
Tyrone Correa has lived in the building for 40 years and said he hasn’t heard of an attack like this so close to home.
“It’s a pretty good building and you have good tenants, but it’s New York City also and these kinds of things happen,” Correa said. “I don’t recall it ever happening in this building.”
The victim is a 68-year-old woman who left her apartment Sunday evening to take out her trash when two men entered her apartment through her unlocked door, according to authorities.
Detectives tell PIX11 News the suspects attempted to rob the woman of her belongings. She was stabbed multiple times throughout her body upon returning to her apartment. Jordan Ramos, who lives in the building, is now worried for his loved ones.
“I live on the third floor, she lives on the fourth, and then my family lives on the fifth, so it’s kind of concerning,” said Ramos. “Like we don’t know who this guy is.”
The men were unsuccessful in their robbery attempt and fled the scene empty-handed. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
As police continue searching for the suspects, neighbors are urging each other to take extra precautions in hopes of preventing future tragedies.
“We need to be careful, cautious, and if we see strangers just deal with it as such,” Correa said. No arrests have been made and the investigation into the stabbing remains ongoing. Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call crime stoppers.
