PARK SLOPE, Brooklyn (PIX11) – A search is underway for a 20-year-old man who allegedly stabbed 19-year-old twin sisters on Sunday in Brooklyn, killing one of them, according to the NYPD.
Police identified the suspect as 20-year-old Veo Kelly of Bushwick. Kelly had been attending a party in the area prior to the stabbings, police said.
After leaving the party, Kelly allegedly went to a bodega near Fourth Avenue and St. Marks Place in Park Slope, where he encountered the 19-year-old sisters, according to the NYPD. Kelly allegedly got aggressive with one of the sisters at the bodega while trying to gain their contact information, police said.
When the women rejected him, Kelly allegedly started arguing with them, according to police. The women, who were with a man, got into a fight with the suspect after leaving the bodega, police said.
Samyia Spain was stabbed in the neck and chest before she was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Police said they have a video showing Kelly at the bodega -- but not the stabbing itself. Police searched Kelly's apartment on Wednesday. Police said they found the clothes Kelly had on in the video from the bodega in his apartment.
Police believe Kelly was drunk and said everyone in the bodega was ordering food before the stabbings happened. The 19-year-old sisters did not attend the nearby party but were at the bodega to get food, according to police.
Kelly’s lawyer allegedly contacted the NYPD and told them “that they're going to arrange a surrender,” police said. However, police said they remained skeptical it would happen.
Police said Kelly had one prior arrest for robbery. Detectives did not find the murder weapon during the search of his apartment, authorities said.
