JAIPUR:
City's police commissioner
Biju George Joseph on Thursday resolved more than 190
complaints
during a 'jan sunwai' (
public hearing
) held at the Kanota police station from morning to evening.
Joseph sat down with additional
police commissioner
(crime) Kailash Chandra Bishnoi and DCP (east) Gyan Chandra Yadav to hear people's complaints. He spoke to each complainant, noted down their concerns in his diary, and simultaneously instructed the station house officer (SHO) concerned regarding the matter.
The public hearing was organized for people from Tunga, Bassi, Kanota, Khoh Nagoriyan, and Transport Nagar police station areas of the city police's East district. Some people travelled from as far as Bhankrota and Jhotwara to meet the commissioner and share their problems with him.
Joseph told officers that the slow pace of work by personnel posted at the field level often causes problems for the general public and directed them to act swiftly on complaints pending with them.
He mentioned that the new initiative of public hearings has been well-received by the common people. "Complainants from rural and remote areas, who face challenges in travelling to the city and the DCP and commissioner's offices, often find themselves with no alternative but to repeatedly visit their local police stations," Joseph mentioned. He added that public hearing programs are now being organized in far-flung areas to facilitate the immediate resolution of issues for these complainants.
Joseph said during the public hearing, a range of complaints were brought to his notice. These included issues related to the illegal occupation of lands, double lease deeds of properties, disputes, family lawsuits, theft, threats, assault, and various other concerns. He issued instructions for thorough probe into all the complaints.
