Amid protests against the arrest of Kerala Youth Congress President Rahul Mamkootathil, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Kerala VD Satheesan on Saturday alleged that a girl was "brutally attacked" by the police during the protest, led by youth Congress workers, in Kannur on Friday.

"Kerala Police as an instrument of the Kerala government has been doing injustice and brutality towards the youngsters of the state. Yesterday in Kannur, a young girl was brutally attacked by the police. This was at the request of CM," Congress's Satheesan said as quoted by news agency ANI.

The Congress leader's allegations were in response to police using water cannon to disperse Youth Congress workers, who were protesting against the arrest of Mamkootathil.

Youth Congress Ernakulam District Committee on Saturday led a protest march to the police commissioner's office demanding the release of Mamkoottathil.
