MIDTOWN EAST, Manhattan (PIX11) – A person was stabbed at a Manhattan subway station early Sunday morning, according to the NYPD.
The male – whose age was not known – was stabbed in the back just before 5 a.m. at the Lexington Avenue-53rd Street station, police said. It was not immediately clear whether the man was stabbed on an E train or platform, police said.
The victim was rushed to an area hospital while three male suspects fled on a Queens-bound train, police said.
Subway safety has become a key concern for state and city officials, but Mayor Eric Adams said subway crime remains low despite some flashy incidents. With about 4 million daily riders, there are an average of 6 felonies per day, Adams said.
