NEW DELHI: The
Pakistan Cricket Board
(
PCB
) has undergone a restructuring of its selection committee, abolishing the chairman's position and delegating the authority to the selectors to choose the captain and head coach of the national team.
PCB chief
Mohsin Naqvi
disclosed this development in Lahore on Sunday, with the presence of four members of the selection committee:
Mohammad Yousuf
,
Abdul Razzaq
,
Asad Shafiq
, and
Wahab Riaz
.
"The new selection committee will have seven members now including the team captain, head coach and a data analyst," Naqvi said.
Naqvi clarified that the selection committee will operate without a chairman, emphasising that all decisions will be reached through either majority voting or consensus among its members.
"We took all pros and cons into consideration before finalizing the selection committee and I am saying this now the board chairman will now have no role in the team selection," he added.
The announcement of the new selection committee came shortly after the dissolution of the previous committee.
Naqvi emphasized that under the new arrangement, the selectors would have the authority to determine what is in the best interest of the team and Pakistan cricket, taking charge of all technical matters.
"The selectors are all professionals and will decide on the captain and also be part of the process to pick the new coaching team," he added.
While Yousuf, Razzaq, and Riaz (former chief selector) have previous experience as national selectors, it marks the first time for Test batsman Shafiq to take on this responsibility.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the new selection committee would soon disclose the names of players slated to participate in a two-week training camp at the Kakul army center.
