MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Parking meters across New York City are going paperless.
All 80,000 meters across the city will be upgraded with paperless Pay-by-Plate technology, the New York City Department of Transportation announced on Monday.
Instead of displaying a receipt on their dashboard, users will enter their license plate information into an on-street parking meter.
“Our new Pay-by-Plate parking meters are simple to use and will make short-term parking easier for everyone,” said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. “Drivers will no longer need to worry about leaving a paper receipt on their dashboard and can use the convenience of the ParkNYC app to pay the meter while on the go.”
The DOT will begin installing the upgraded parking meters in northern Manhattan on May 8 and then progress south.
The meters will have multiple language options and offer contactless credit card payments. New Yorkers can also pay at a kiosk or on the ParkNYC app.
