Patrick J. Adams

never expected to find his way back to

Zane Specter Litt

after the end of

Suits

.
While talking to PEOPLE on the red carpet of the 2024 Golden Globes on Sunday, the Suits veteran, 42, pondered on the

legal drama

's recent

resurrection on Netflix

and spoke up about the show's surprise return.
"I mean, when you say goodbye to a show and you walk away and it ends and you had your moment, you think that's it," he said.

"It's going to be over, and nothing else will happen." And you get to read a

history book

."
Adams described the "

second swell

" as "really, really strange."

"It occurred. And then it was one week, then two weeks, then five weeks, and so on. "I believe we had a twelve-week run at number one," he recalls. "It's insane." As a result, we are quite grateful. And I believe there is something about the show that plainly speaks to people."
Suits starred Adams, Gabriel Macht,

Sarah Rafferty

,

Rick Hoffman

, and Meghan Markle across nine seasons from 2011 to 2019.

Nielsen stated in July 2023 that the drama, which originally aired on the USA Network, set a new record as the most-viewed purchased streaming title nearly four years after its series end, with 3 billion viewing minutes in its debut week on Netflix.

At the Golden Globes on Sunday, Adams, Macht, Rafferty, and Gina Torres reunited to present the prize for best drama series to the cast of Succession.
Markle, who left the program after season 7 due to her engagement to Prince Harry, expressed her joy at the show's revival in November. When asked by Variety what she thinks is driving the "renewed love" for the show, the Duchess of Sussex replied, "I have no idea." It was a pleasure to work on, with such a talented cast and team. We had a fantastic time. I was on it for seven seasons, so I was there a long time."
"But it's hard to find a show you can binge-watch that many episodes of these days, so that could have something to do with it," she said. "But good shows are everlasting."
