Paterson police officer arrested for shoplifting during overtime shift

PATERSON, N.J. (PIX11) -- A police officer with the Paterson Police Department is accused of shoplifting while working an overtime shift, officials said.

Jeury DeJesus-Rodriguez, 25, was providing security for the Marshalls in Paterson working an overtime shift, according to officials. DeJesus-Rodriguez allegedly took several items of clothing to an employee bathroom where he removed the price tags and packaging and left the store without paying.

The retail value of the stolen items where $66.97, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors said DeJesus-Rodriguez was charged on Thursday with official misconduct in the third degree and shoplifting.

Additional information on when DeJesus-Rodriguez was working the overtime shift was not immediately available.
