BAY SHORE, N.Y. (PIX11) -- The Bay Shore community is reeling after a teen party ended in tragedy Friday night. Nineteen-year-old Sean Mills was shot and killed, leaving his heartbroken brother James demanding justice.
James Mills remembers his younger brother Sean as a kind and peaceful young man. Sean's room reflects this, with wrestling medals displayed proudly and boxing gloves resting on his bed. Photos show a happy Sean at graduation and prom just a few years back.
"He really was a nice kid. He never started with anybody," James said.
Despite the advertised security and "no weapons" policy on the party flyer, tragedy struck.
Responding to reports of a shooting on Ackerson Boulevard, Suffolk County police arrived at the scene of an outdoor party with around 50 attendees. They found Sean Mills and a 17-year-old girl suffering from gunshot wounds. The girl was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, while Sean was rushed to the hospital but tragically died.
"How can people like that still do that, what they did to him, and still somehow roam around?" James questioned, expressing his grief and demanding accountability for those responsible.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. The Mills family is making funeral arrangements for Sean.
Anyone with information that could help investigators is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
