PATNA: Three days after her husband and son were arrested on Sunday — the day of trust vote — JD(U) legislator Bima Bharti on Wednesday alleged that it happened since the
party
had
lost
faith in its own leaders. Three of her family members, including her husband Awadhesh Mandal and nephew, were arrested for allegedly carrying firearms, whose licences were issued in the name of Bharti and her daughter.
Bharti was said to be one of the JD(U) legislators who allegedly was in touch with the RJD and was supposed to vote for the latter although that didn’t happen.
Now, she alleges that such repressive measures were initiated against her family since the party had lost faith in her.
“What do they want to prove? My family members are being treated like terrorists. We are with the JD(U) but the party has lost trust in us,” she alleged, talking to media persons on Wednesday.
“What crime my son had committed? Aatankwadi tha kya (Was he a terrorist),” she asked, adding it is very shocking that they are being tortured despite she being part of the ruling party.
She said the police officers told her that they had pressure from the top to send her son and husband to jail. “I was coming to Patna with my daughter by car on Sunday evening to attend the floor test while my husband and son were in another vehicle following ours. They were arrested on way and later sent to jail,” she said.
