NEW YORK (PIX11) --- Parents who say their children were promised free 3-K admission will rally near City Hall on Thursday morning.
A coalition of parents and elected officials will gather at City Hall Park at 10 a.m. to deliver 6,000 petitions to Mayor Eric Adams.
This group insists 2,500 families have been left in the lurch by the move from the Adams administration to cut waste and costs in the citywide childcare program. The cost of education at that age can run up to $20,000.
Parents and NYC Council members said Adams has repeatedly promised them 3-K seats in their districts and accused the mayor of dismantling the program.
Adams defended his decision in an interview on PIX on Politics last week.
"Because I've been very clear. I have not wavered from the fact that every child who desires a seat will have access to a seat, but we will be efficient. You can't pay for 9,000 seats out of taxpayers' dollars, and then state how are we going to fund those programs that I needed?" Adams said.
