NEW DELHI:

Jasmine Paolini

secured her place in the

French Open final

with a commanding 6-3, 6-1 victory over rising star

Mirra Andreeva

, marking a significant moment for Italian

tennis

.
The 28-year-old Paolini becomes the first Italian woman to reach the

Roland Garros final

since Sara Errani in 2012, adding to the wave of Italian success at this year's tournament following

Jannik Sinner

's run to the men's semifinals.
Paolini's aggressive game, spearheaded by her powerful forehand, proved too much for the 16-year-old Andreeva to handle. Despite Andreeva's previous victory over Paolini in Madrid earlier this year, the young Russian struggled to find her rhythm on Court Philippe Chatrier.
The match began with both players showcasing their skills, but Paolini's experience and strategic play allowed her to gain the upper hand. After securing a crucial break at 3-1, Paolini fended off three break points, showcasing her resilience under pressure. She maintained her composure, saving two more break points in the seventh game before clinching the first set.
The second set saw Paolini continue her dominance. She broke Andreeva's serve early and never relinquished control, dictating the pace of play with her aggressive groundstrokes. Andreeva, visibly struggling with the occasion and Paolini's relentless pressure, was unable to mount a comeback. The match concluded with a fittingly powerful forehand winner from Paolini, securing her historic victory.

While Paolini celebrated her achievement, she acknowledged Andreeva's talent and the challenge she presented.

"It was a tough match, she's playing unbelievable, she's 17 years old, she's so complete so I was a little bit nervous before the match. I lost against her one month ago so I was like, come on you have to do better, today I was nervous in the first set but then ball after ball I was getting relaxed," said the 12th seeded Paolini after the win.
"I learned I think a little bit later than other players maybe, to dream is I think the most important thing in sport and in life, I'm happy that I could dream this moment and I don't know what to say, I'm so emotional," added the tennis star.
Her perseverance and dedication have culminated in this career-defining moment. Now, she faces the ultimate test against the world No. 1 and two-time defending champion,

Iga Swiatek

, in the final.
