Emotions were running high as Pakistan lost against India by 6 runs in the Group A match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York on June 9, Sunday. A closely-contested match witnessed Pakistan losing yet another encounter against India in front of a packed stadium with a capacity of 34000 people. It was yet another heart-break for the Pakistani fans who have always come out in support of their team despite them putting a string of upsetting performances. There was a sense of disappointment among the fans, who came to witness the clash in New York as well as the ones in Rawalpindi Stadium, Lahore-where the live screening happened. The fans had turned out in huge numbers as banners and posters of Pakistani players alongside their national flag fluttered in the stands.
As soon as Pakistan lost, there was a sense of somber among the green jersey-clad people as the Indian team supporters erupted in joy. It was the same tale, in a different venue, as the Pakistani fans expressed their anguish at the national team on social media. Many fans sympathised with Naseem Shah, who walked off the field in tears as he could not help the team finish the game as there were not enough balls left. Meanwhile, other Pakistani fans expressed their shock and dismay as to how the Babar Azam-led outfit managed to lose after being in a winning position. Pakistan will next face Canada on June 11, Tuesday at the same venue in New York as they will hope to keep their Group * stage hopes alive.
