THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – The Concourse Plaza Multiplex is closing its doors for good after its final showtime Tuesday evening, leaving the Bronx with only one movie theater.
The Multiplex's parent company, Showtime Cinemas, called the closure "a business decision" in a Facebook post. The theater has been open for more than 30 years.
Losing the Multiplex leaves the Bronx, a borough with more than 1 million people, with a single movie theater at Bay Plaza in Co-Op City.
The Multiplex's last-ever showtimes are Tuesday night after 9 p.m. just as the summer movie box office usually heats up. Showtime Cinemas also closed theaters in Queens and Brooklyn this year.
