BHUBANESWAR: An inspector was on Monday suspended for allegedly shifting bodies of three
accident
victims from her jurisdiction to the limits of her neighbouring police station in Jharsuguda district recently.
The suspended cop was identified as
Sandhyarni Jena
, former inspector-in-charge (IIC) of
Lakhanpur police
station. According to police sources, three men died after being allegedly run over by a truck in Lakhanpur
police limits
on January 8.
The accident spot was barely 500 metres from Belpahar police limits.
“Jena instructed her subordinate staff to immediately shift the bodies from her police limits to Belpahar jurisdiction. She did so in order to avoid her duty, pressure of investigation and other formalities,” a senior police officer said.
Jena’s alleged mischief was caught by some locals, who subsequently drew the attention of the senior police officers to the issue.
“A disciplinary proceeding has been initiated against Jena for her gross misconduct. She has been placed under suspension with immediate effect,” an order signed by director general of police Arun Sarangi read on Monday.
Notably, during her posting as IIC at Patna police station in Keonjhar district Jena was suspended on May 23, 2020 for allegedly torturing a theft suspect inside police lockup. The Odisha human rights commission had then recommended the state government not to give her posting in any police station for the next two years.
