BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- The NYPD seized millions of dollars worth of cannabis products from a Brooklyn warehouse on Friday, officials said.
Investigators responded to a burglary in Fort Greene, and after arresting the suspects they discovered cannabis products. A joint investigation led by the NYPD and the NYC Sheriff's Office uncovered edibles, vapes, and pre-rolls at a warehouse located on Adelphi Street, authorities report.
Deputy Mayor of Communications Fabien Levy shared on Tuesday that police seized over 100 50-gallon containers with THC vapes, concentrate drinks, and other cannabis products. City officials said it was "one of the largest operations against a cannabis distributor to date."
"Through ‘Operation Padlock to Protect,’ we have already sealed over 200 illegal smoke shops, and today, we tackled a major distributor supplying these shops with products threatening the safety and health of our communities, particularly young New Yorkers," a City Hall spokesperson said.
Mayor Eric Adams commented on the bust Tuesday, saying that the key to closing illegal smokeshops is by going after suppliers.
"We've always said this over and over again, someone is supplying these shops. They open too quickly and they’re just too structured,” Adams shared.
