RODMAN'S NECK, Bronx (PIX11) – An NYPD officer died after having a medical episode at a department training facility in the Bronx Wednesday afternoon, according to the NYPD.
The 33-year-old recruit had a medical episode around 11:25 a.m. while doing a training exercise at an outdoor range at Rodman’s Neck, according to the NYPD.
He was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition, and died shortly after, officials said. The 33-year-old started with the department in January, according to police.
Authorities were investigating whether the officer may have suffered heat stroke or a heart attack.
New York City has seen temperatures above 90 degrees in the past few days, marking the second heat wave of the year. Temperatures hit the highest point all year in the city on Monday, hitting 95 degrees just before 2 p.m. in Central Park.
