QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) -- With heavy hearts, NYPD leaders on Tuesday showed their support for the police officers who worked alongside Officer Jonathan Diller, who was shot and killed in the line of duty in Queens on Monday.
Diller, 31, was killed while conducting a traffic stop in Far Rockaway. Diller was shot after he and another officer stopped a vehicle that was illegally parked at a bus stop, according to police.
"Jonathan was an amazing officer with three years on the job. He went out there and did what we asked him to do. He epitomized what the New York City Police Department is all about, the hard work, the sacrifices. And our hearts go out to him and his family," NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban said.
Diller was known as a talented officer. He was selected to work in one of the department's elite units -- the Community Response Team.
Diller had at least 70 arrests under his belt in just the three years he was on the job.
Diller was a husband and a father to a young child. A GoFundMe page was started for Diller’s family.
Diller is the first NYPD officer to be killed in the line of duty since 2022, when officers Wilbert Mora and Jason Rivera were ambushed and killed in Harlem.
