NYCHA resident confirmed to have died from Legionnaires' disease in Brooklyn: DOH

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A resident living in the Langston Hughes Houses in Brooklyn is confirmed to have died from Legionnaires' disease, according to the city's Health Department.

The person contracted the disease last July and died within the same month, health officials said. Another tenant in the NYCHA building also contracted Legionnaires' disease in January of this year but has since recovered, according to the DOH.

The DOH said any time there are two Legionnaires' disease cases within a year, an investigation is launched. The city told PIX11 News it recently tested the water for bacteria that causes Legionnaires' and disinfected the system.

The test results are expected in the coming days, according to the DOH.
