TREMONT, the Bronx (PIX11) – A family is in anguish after the death of an 18-year-old man who was shot and killed in New York City Sunday.
Juan Pena was shot and killed near East Tremont and Park avenues in the Bronx’s Tremont neighborhood around 1:25 a.m., according to the NYPD. The 18-year-old was walking with a friend when a gunman shot him multiple times, police said.
Pena was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made in the case.
Pena’s family said the 18-year-old had big dreams that have now been shattered. Pena’s mother said her son wanted to join the Navy, and he had recently sent in his application.
Anyera Pena, the sister of the victim, said she and her brother were close and now a piece of her is missing.
"He was friendly. He had the whole block, whole community and whole friends behind his back," Anyera Pena said.
Pena’s sister sent a message to the person responsible for her brother's death.
“He was taken away from us,” she said. “You are going to pay. You are going to pay.”
