NEW YORK (PIX11) -- The Center for an Urban Future has proposed five pioneering ideas to enhance New York City's post-pandemic economy.
These ideas aim to address ongoing challenges stemming from the transformed economic landscape post-pandemic, including hybrid work models, e-commerce, housing shortages, and climate change readiness.
The actionable strategies outlined by the organization include creating a new top-flight undergraduate university, convening a high-profile, multisector AI week to capture a large share of the nation's fast-growing AI industry, launching the city's first annual five-borough cultural festival, creating a major new public art installation on the scale of "The Gates," and expanding public art programs citywide.
Jonathan Bowles, the Executive Director of the organization, emphasizes that these ideas could play a crucial role in revitalizing the city at a time when reinvention is essential.
"New York's been a place that's always been about big ideas. It is not like they happen every single year, but it's not been shy to kind of put forward big ideas, and think one of the great things about New York is that it is always reinventing itself. It's always actually embracing new, fresh ideas to keep the city strong. And so, we think these ideas or some of them might help do that right now, that this might be a time where we need to reinvent ourselves," says Bowles.
