NYC teens accused of beating down retired cop, turn themselves in: NYPD

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Four teenagers accused of beating down a 65-year-old retired police officer on the Upper East Side turned themselves in on Friday evening, according to police.

The victim was trying to help a cab driver who was being harassed by the teens, according to police sources.

On Tuesday, officers reported that five suspects got into a fight with the 65-year-old victim near East 84th Street and Park Avenue.

The five suspects surrounded the victim, and one of them struck the retired officer with a backpack and punched him in the face, police said.

The victim fell to the ground and sustained minor injuries to his face and knee. He declined medical attention, police said. The suspects later fled the scene on foot.

On Friday, four teens turned themselves in to the authorities.

According to arrest records, three 14-year-olds are being charged with gang assault in the second degree and assault in the second degree.

A 13-year-old is facing one count of second-degree gang assault and two counts of second-degree assault. According to the police, the 13-year-old punched the victim in the face and struck him with a backpack.

All are residents of the Upper East Side.

Since the criminals are under 18, their names have not been released.
