NYC set to see first 8 p.m. sunset of 2024

NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York City will be seeing its first 8 p.m. sunset of 2024 this week.

It's happening on Friday night. The sun has been setting later ever since the so-called darkest day of the year on Dec. 21.

Mermaids, sea creatures to strut their stuff during Mermaid Parade in Coney Island

Nearly an hour of daylight will be added by the end of May until the summer solstice on June 21.

That's when we'll start to lose daylight hours again.
