NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York City’s oldest LGBTQIA+ theater company is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
The Other Side of Silence has big plans for its 50th season, the company announced on Wednesday.
“When playwright and gay rights activist Doric Wilson founded TOSOS, it was the only group in NYC devoted solely to the LGBTQIA+ experience,” said Artistic Director Mark Finley. "TOSOS strives to tell our untold stories and maintain our place in theatrical and social history.”
The theater company started in 1974. For its latest run, the company is staging the world premiere of “Pride House” by Chris Weikel.
The play is set in Fire Island’s famed gay-friendly beach Cherry Grove. Fifteen performances will be staged Wednesdays through Saturdays from Jan. 18 through Feb. 10 at The Flea Theater in TriBeCa.
TOSOS’ 50th anniversary season will also include a reading series of six plays by LGBTQIA+ artists. Multiple fundraising events are planned and open to the public. More information on 50th-anniversary events can be found here.
