NEW YORK (PIX11)-- On Saturday, New York City Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch immediately appointed Edward A. Thompson as Interim Chief of Internal Affairs.
A spokesperson for the New York City Police Department told PIX11 News.
This announcement comes on the heels of NYC’s top uniformed police officer – Jeffery Maddery, resigning amid sexual misconduct allegations. Hours after Maddery’s resignation, former Chief of Internal Affairs Miguel Iglesias was relieved of his command, according to officials.
"Above all else, the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau must always be dedicated to preserving integrity and rooting out corruption in all its forms,” said NYPD Commissioner Tisch. “It is an essential function that is crucial to maintaining honor and nobility in the profession and preserving public trust. Chief Thompson is up to the task.”
Thompson is a 38-year veteran of the NYPD. He is a graduate of the 207th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
PIX11 News reached out to Maddery's legal team regarding the sexual misconduct allegations, but they were not immediately available to comment.
