NEW YORK (PIX11) -- United Bodegas of America in partnership with Bronx-based company ProHealth are donating $8,000 to help pay for the wake and funeral of beloved Brooklyn bodega worker Nazim Berry.
Berry, 37, was shot and killed over a cigar in Crown Heights on Monday, according to police, sending shockwaves through the community. A candlelight vigil was held Tuesday night outside the bodega.
“He’s always willing to help. He’s worked in the store here for quite some time. I do not know how it managed to happen,” one resident told PIX11 News.
According to investigators, a customer asked Berry to buy him a cigar, and Berry refused. The customer left, returned with a gun, and fatally shot Berry outside the store at Franklin Avenue and Lincoln Place, police said.
United Bodegas of America is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
