NEW YORK (PIX11) --- New York Waterway plans to increase service to help commuters amid the New Jersey Transit labor strike.
NJ Transit trains are not running on Friday after the agency and its engineers failed to negotiate a contract, marking the first stoppage since 1983.
An estimated 350,000 commuters will have to find other ways to get to work due to the strike.
The NY Waterway ferries run from several New Jersey terminals to stops in Midtown Manhattan and Downtown Manhattan, including Edgewater, Weehawken, Hoboken, Jersey City and South and South Amboy.
Fares and schedules can be found here.
Commuters can also catch the Staten Island Ferry at two locations, at Whitehall Street in Manhattan and the St. George Terminal on Staten Island.
The boats run every half-hour and are free.
