QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Asad Raza parked his shiny new black Acura MDX SUV in front of his home in Douglaston, Queens Monday, only to wake up early Tuesday to a surveillance camera alert.
The video shows what appears to be a male suspect – seen vandalizing his new black ride with bright white paint.
Raza isn't the only homeowner in the neighborhood with a suite of home surveillance cameras. Based on his neighbors' cameras, it is likely the suspect walked up the block to get there. It is a short, dead-end street, so Raza has no doubt that he was targeted. He just doesn't know why.
Detectives do have a single lead in the investigation. For some reason, the suspect decided to toss the paint but leave behind a bucket, which detectives retrieved.
"I'm scared. I'm worried about the safety of my family," said Raza.
Although Raza suspects he was targeted for his race, ethnicity, or religion, the NYPD is not currently investigating it as a bias crime.
"I do not have any bad relationships with anybody. I cannot think of anybody angry with me for my actions. My wife is a schoolteacher. And she's very nice with the kids. My two sons and my daughter, they all graduated from good schools," Raza said.
Raza added he does not recall being involved in any road rage incidents that could have led to him being followed back to his home.
One of Raza’s neighbors is just as baffled.
"He's a nice guy. He knows everything. Always he protects my property too," said Samina Salahudin.
Raza was able to protect his new SUV by immediately washing off most of the white paint with warm water.
What’s left him steaming mad is that he's driving into the new year in a damaged new SUV with no answers.
