NYC delivery workers face more injury and assault, study reveals

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) -- A recent study reveals delivery workers in the city face high rates of injury and assault.

CUNY researchers released the study on Monday, which details that one in five workers reported being injured, and a similar number were assaulted.

The study attributes the risks delivery workers navigate to app algorithms that incentivize speed and sometimes give delivery drivers unsafe routes to follow.

Researchers say there's a need for stronger labor protections and accountability for app-based companies.
