NEW YORK (PIX11) -- New York City budget cuts are affecting public school students, who are finding certain foods disappearing from school cafeterias.

Education website Chalkbeat reported that chicken tenders, grab-and-go salads, bean and cheese burritos, and French fries have all been removed from the school menu.

School officials have assured parents that menu changes would be minimal, according to Chalkbeat.

More items are expected to be removed come February. Among those food items are roasted chicken, guacamole, salsa, and breakfast meal kits.

This comes a year after the city pledged major investments to convert cafeterias into food courts.
