NEW YORK (PIX11) – New Yorkers would be able to possess up to 5 pounds of recreational marijuana that they’ve grown at home under a new proposal.
It is currently illegal in New York to grow marijuana plants at home for recreational use until regulations are established, according to the state’s Office of Cannabis Management. However, the Office of Cannabis Management on Tuesday revealed a set of proposed regulations for growing marijuana at home.
Under the proposed rules, New Yorkers who are at least 21 years old would be allowed to possess up to 5 pounds of cannabis flower that have been trimmed from plants they’ve grown at home.
Home growers would be able to possess 5 pounds of cannabis concentrate or a 5-pound mixture of both cannabis flower and cannabis concentrate.
New Yorkers would be allowed to grow three mature and three immature marijuana plants per person, but they wouldn't be able to grow more than six mature plants and six immature plants per residence.
The Cannabis Control Board will consider the proposed home cultivation regulations during its board meeting on Jan. 24. If approved, a 60-day public comment period will follow before the regulations can be finalized.
