BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A non-profit is in need of volunteers and support to feed more than a thousand families this Passover.

There’s a shortage of volunteers and donations and it’s affecting one community organization in Brooklyn. The Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island is helping feed families and holocaust survivors this Passover and they need support.

More Monica Makes It Happen

82-year-old Sofia Grodski, a holocaust survivor, says she is so happy to be getting a free traditional Passover meal to help her celebrate the holiday with dignity.

Grodski is not alone. More than a thousand mostly seniors and many holocaust survivors are getting free Passover meals thanks to the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island and the met council.

Aisha Young says it’s her fourth year volunteering with her coworkers and says that she loves it.

Esther Gottlieb, chief operating officer of the JCCGCI, says the need for food is greater than ever before and her group is looking for more volunteers to help pack and distribute bags of food. Inside each bag are trimmings for a traditional Passover dinner.

There are three distributions planned.
