NEW DELHI: Rajasthan Royals pacer Sandeep Sharma drew praise from legendary
Sunil Gavaskar
for his brilliant bowling display against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 2 of the
IPL 2024
in Chennai on Friday.
Sandeep, a master on tacky surfaces, effectively utilized his skills to help Rajasthan Royals restrict Sunrisers Hyderabad to 175/9.
The right-arm pacer cleverly took pace off his deliveries, finishing with impressive figures of 2/25, including the prized scalps of
Travis Head
and
Heinrich Klaasen
.
Gavaskar, during the commentary, urged the BCCI selectors to consider Sandeep for the national team. The former India captain pointed out that despite the attention and praise garnered by express fast bowlers from experts and seasoned players, the 31-year-old's consistent performances often go unnoticed.
"Whenever someone bowls over 140kmph, we begin salivating, but no one talks about him as an India prospect. Look at the slower bowls, it shows cleverness,” he said.
In 11 matches so far in IPL 2024, Sandeep has taken 13 wickets for Rajasthan Royals, including a remarkable five-wicket haul.
