(NEXSTAR) — Time for a culinary road trip?
Yelp has recently released its annual list of the "Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S.," highlighting the restaurants that come highly recommended by Yelp’s online community. This year’s rankings also feature a diverse selection of U.S. restaurants, with 25% of the list being made up of Asian or Asian-fusion restaurants, according to Yelp.
In total, restaurants in 28 states and Washington, D.C., were determined by Yelp to be some of the top “places to eat” in 2024. But only one could take the top spot, and this year the honor goes to Tumerico, a vegetarian Mexican eatery in Tucson, Arizona.
The restaurant, owned by James Beard Award semifinalist Wendy Garcia, currently has a 4.8-star rating on Yelp with over 1,000 reviews.
“It’s all about those recipes I made with mom, dad, and grandma — tamales, chilaquiles, enchiladas, barbacoa — whatever Mexican dish you can think of, we can make [a vegetarian version] at Tumerico,” Garcia told Yelp.
Several other Arizona restaurants were included in 2024’s list, but California continues to maintain its position as the state with the most inclusions, boasting a whopping 18 entries (and five in the top 10 alone). Florida, the runner-up, is home to 13 of this year’s honorees, while Texas and Arizona share third place with eight each. Nevada rounds out the top five, with six restaurants on the list.
The top 10, as determined by Yelp, are listed below:

- Sunny Side Kitchen – Escondido, California
- GS Cafe and Ethiopian Cuisine – Covina, California
- Fratellino – Coral Gables, Florida
- Broken Mouth | Lee’s Homestyle – Los Angeles, California
- Adela’s Country Eatery – Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii
- Sierra Subs and Salads – Three Rivers, California
- Gino’s Deli Stop N Buy – San Antonio, Texas
- Uncle Af’s – Agoura Hills, California

It should be noted, however, that Yelp’s 2024 rankings aren’t necessarily a reflection of the best-reviewed restaurants on its entire platform. Rather, Yelp’s list was compiled from submissions and suggestions solicited from users, which were then compared against the overall ratings and volume of reviews on each business’s Yelp page. Yelp's community managers then further curated the rankings based on their “expertise” before the list was finalized, a representative for the platform tells Nexstar.
So while these restaurants may not be in the top 100 on the platform (in terms of overall ratings and reviews), they’re among the most raved-about restaurants in the country.
Yelp says each eatery is also well worth a road trip, if you happen to be within driving distance.
“This year, our huge, food-loving community reviewed and rated their faves from coast to coast, so you can find lots of new restaurants to love, whether you’re at home or on the road,” the site claims.
