NEW JERSEY (PIX11) – NJ Transit rail service is suspended for a third day as locomotive engineers continue their strike.
The strike started Friday, kicking off the transit system's first stoppage since 1983. Negotiations continue between NJ Transit and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, who are scheduled to meet with a federal mediator Sunday, NJ Transit CEO Kris Kolluri said.
Commuters have been advised to work from home when possible. NJ Transit is running park-and-ride bus service in and out of New York City and additional service on existing bus routes. To find a list of park-and-ride locations, click here.
Metro-North is cross-honoring West of Hudson tickets for New York riders who switch to the Hudson or Harlem lines. West of Hudson parking passes will also be cross-honored at the Cortlandt, Beacon, Poughkeepsie, North White Plains and New Hamburg stations.
New York State is providing park-and-ride buses to Tarrytown and White Plains.
To get to Newark Liberty International Airport, Port Authority runs a free shuttle bus between Newark Penn Station and the AirTrain every 20 minutes except between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.
