NEW JERSEY (PIX11) — Dozens of shoppers rushed to Home Depot Saturday, filling their carts with ice melt and shovels, hoping to get ahead of the winter storm before supplies ran low.

Julie Chiesa said she wanted to be prepared for whatever the storm might bring.

NY, NJ, CT weather: Winter storm warning issued as snow expected to blanket regions

“I was out doing my errands and stuff,” she recalled. “I said, you know, let me go by Home Depot, pick up a little ice melt just in case, and a shovel, in case anyone wants to come by and help shovel.”

Grocery stores also saw shoppers grabbing necessities. Maria Soto stopped by Stop & Shop, hoping to avoid venturing out once the storm hit. She said she noticed some shelves were already empty.

“It’s busy in there,” said Soto. “It’s hard to get even anything in there. It’s like barely any ground beef or any type of food that you’re actually looking for.”

Robert Gerson made sure to get tons of items to prepare for his Super Bowl party, although some items were out of stock.

“I got the chips for the Super Bowl for tomorrow,” he said. "I’m not going out tomorrow. I got the soda. I got chicken.”

Gerson added, “I wanted to get a salad and they don’t have any.”

Bergen County Officials are prepared for the storm with more than 100 snowplows, salt trucks, and other vehicles ready to hit the roads.

Archie McCord is hoping his preparations help him ride out the storm safely.

“You never know,” said McCord. “They could say 3 inches and you have 12 inches in your area so, it’s always good to stay prepared.”

Snow-covered roads are expected to make for slushy and potentially hazardous driving conditions, so it's important to allow for extra travel time if you absolutely need to go outside.
