Nitish Kumar on Sunday took oath as
Bihar chief minister
for a record ninth time in a dramatic move dumping opposition's India bloc and forming government with the support of the BJP.
The JD(U) president had said that the state of affairs within the ruling alliance in Bihar wasn't good.
The NDA had brought a no confidence motion application before the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat on January 28 and as per the law any session can be started only after the 14-day period.
This was the second time when a no confidence motion was brought against a Speaker in five years in the state.
JD(U) has 45 members in the 243-member Bihar assembly. The support of BJP and the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) will take the total tally of the NDA to 127, which is five more than the half mark at 122, required to prove majority in the House.
Besides, JD(U) also has the support of one Independent legislator, Sumit Kumar Singh, who is already a cabinet minister in the current Nitish-led government. With Sumit’s support, the total NDA tally will be 128. The RJD (79) along with the Congress (19) and the Left parties (16) have a combined 114 MLAs, eight short of a majority.
