NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) -- Newark officials have issued a Code Red due to the expected heat index exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
The Code Red will remain in effect from Tuesday through Wednesday evening.
Newark residents are encouraged to use air conditioning to stay cool and drink water at regular intervals. Seniors and residents with chronic health issues should take precautions to prevent heat-related stress and exhaustion.
Officials advise to avoid strenuous activities, especially during the sun's peak between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
