NEW YORK (PIX11) – New Yorkers won’t have to do anything to receive an inflation refund check from the state, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul.
A timeline for when the checks will be sent out is being finalized in the state budget, which has not been approved yet, Hochul said. Over 8 million residents automatically qualify for the refund as long as they filed their returns for the most recent tax year.
There are, however, maximum income requirements to receive payment:
- Single filers earning a maximum of $75,000: $200
- Single filers earning over $75,000 with a maximum of $150,000: $150
- Joint filers earning a maximum of $150,000: $400
- Joint filers earning over $150,000 with a maximum of $300,000: $300
Hochul's budget plans to put $5,000 back into New York families' pockets, she said. Other budget agreements include expanding the child tax credit, cutting taxes for the middle class and more.
"When I said your family is my fight, I mean it – and I'll never stop fighting for you," Hochul said in a statement.
