NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Gov. Kathy Hochul revealed New York State's first-ever "Youth Workers Bill of Rights" for students entering the workforce on Wednesday.
The New York State Department of Labor, in partnership with the Department of Education, created the new bill of rights for young workers.
"Every worker in our state deserves a fair, safe work environment, especially our young people," Hochul said. "My administration is taking action to ensure that our youngest workers feel empowered, protected, and well-informed, and by fulfilling my State of the State commitment to creating our first-ever Youth Workers Bill of Rights, we are continuing to make strides toward making New York the safest and most worker-friendly state in the nation."
In 2022, a report highlighted a 68% spike in child labor violations in the state. Hochul pledged to address the issue. So, as young people fill out applications and get ready for their first summer jobs, the state wants to ensure the safety of the newest and greenest workers in the workforce.
