WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (PIX11) --- A New York nanny is headed to prison for shaking a 3-month-old baby so hard he turned blue and had seizures, authorities said Tuesday.

Nija Woodbury, 23, was sentenced to six months behind bars and five years probation after pleading guilty to felony reckless assault of a child last year, prosecutors said.

Woodbury was working for a family in Mount Pleasant when she shook and bounced the infant when he wouldn't stop crying on the afternoon of Jan. 10, 2023. The child's mother found him blue and unresponsive in the crib before he was rushed to the hospital.

The baby spent a week in the ICU with severe head injuries, including bilateral subdural hematomas and bilateral retinal hemorrhages, authorities said.

Woodbury confessed to the crime after she was confronted with deleted texts about the incident, officials said. She pleaded guilty last July.

"I have dealt with the overwhelming guilt about allowing Nija in my home and being responsible for introducing her to what I hold most dear, my precious baby. It will never feel like there is justice for what she has done and put our family through," the child's mother said in a statement to the court.
