UPPER EAST SIDE, MANHATTAN (PIX11) – You may be more likely to get struck by lightning or attacked by a shark, but that's not stopping New Yorkers trying to win the Powerball or Mega Millions jackpots.

The chances of winning the lottery jackpot are about 1 in 300 million. The chances of winning a smaller prize, though, are significantly better.

A $1 million winning ticket was sold at People's Place Deli on 2nd Avenue in Manhattan. New York has sold the most jackpot-winning tickets at 54, according to game records.

Powerball is up $559 million and Mega Millions is up $735 million. The combined prizes of both lotteries are at a near-record $1.3 billion.
