NEW YORK (PIX11) -- New York City Mayor Eric Adams was hit with a Community Note on X (formally Twitter) on Wednesday.

The mayor's social media post was a message of support for the Haitian community in the city while the country of Haiti faces turmoil. The message reads:

"We call New York City the Port-Au-Prince of America. We feel the pain our Haitian neighbors feel as the situation grows dire. To the people of Haiti and our own Haitian community here in New York City, know that we stand with you today and always."

Users of the social media platform were quick to add a Community Note to the post, saying:

"Important context: no one other than Eric Adams has called NYC the 'Port-Au-Prince of America.'"

The community note was followed up with links to searches that showed no search results for the term.

PIX11 News reached out to the mayor's office for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
