NEW YORK (PIX11) -- A new StreetEasy listing policy will take effect in June, and it may impact some NYC brokers, the company announced on its website Thursday.
StreetEasy and Zillow are establishing a listing access standard: A listing marketed to some buyers should be marketed to all buyers.
NYC agents who have been marketing listings to select buyers will now face a significant change. They will lose access to StreetEasy Experts, StreetEasy Concierge, Zillow Premier Agent, and upcoming listing and agent marketing tools from StreetEasy.
The new policy is aimed at helping consumers access available listings without barriers, bias, or backroom deals, according to Vice President and General Manager Caroline Burton.
This means when a listing is publicly marketed — whether through an email blast, an Instagram post, or on a brokerage website with the lure of exclusive inventory behind a consumer registration — it must be submitted to StreetEasy within one business day of that public marketing.
Burton continued ...
Buyers and sellers trust StreetEasy for our consumer-first approach, and we will continue to foster competition and fair access to inventory for all. This is why we’re implementing standards on StreetEasy in addition to the Zillow listing access standards, which apply to Zillow and Trulia. Everyone deserves a fair shot at finding their next home.
Caroline BurtonStreetEasy also noted hiding real estate listings from consumers creates an uneven playing field, eroding trust in the market. Brokers and agents committed to the new policy to promote transparency will soon unlock new offerings from StreetEasy, according to the company.
